Alley-Whoa 2011 AHP Award winner, 3rd place
Alley-Whoa was published in APHA's racing magazine Paint Horse Racing. It's a how-to guide to avoid bad alley-way behavior in your barrel racer. I also took the photos--one of which was published as the cover for that issue.

Ride Strong 2009 AHP Award winner, 1st place
In 2008, I brought Paint Horse Journal readers 12 months of rider-specific exercises for both on and off the horse, as well as fitness and nutrition tips from experts. I supplemented this year-long series with monthly videos of each exercise and a printable workout sheet to take to the gym or barn. I took the photos for the series.

Gym-What?  2008 AHP Award winner, Honorable Mention
This article takes a look at the unusual sport of gymkhana. All photos used are mine. Published in the September 2007 Paint Horse Journal.

This article explaining APHA's social media presence to APHA members was published in the June 2011 Paint Horse Journal magazine.

For this article, I followed NRCHA trainer Todd Crawford around for a day at the NRCHA World Championship Show. This profile published in 2010 in the Paint Horse Journal is a snapshot of a day in the life of a working cow horse trainer. I wrote it in a timeline format. I also took the photos.

This article published in the August 2010 Paint Horse Journal features the pre-World Show training regimen at Elite Show Horses. The article is written in the trainer's voice. I took most of the photos used.

Horse Couture
I enjoyed researching and writing this article with guidelines for matching your horse show outfit to your Paint Horse's color and pattern. It was published in the Paint Horse Journal in December 2009.

Dan Files is one of the most interesting sources I've ever met. Dan is a disabled war veteran that, through the healing power of horses, found happiness in his equine partner Dollar. I took most of the photos in this article published in the July 2009 Paint Horse Journal.

Columns
Paint Portfolio
This is one of the monthly columns I wrote for the Paint Horse Journal. It's a collection of Paint-related news briefs. The equine photos in this particular column are mine.

Take 5 is a a monthly column in the Paint Horse Journal's Youth section called j zone. It's a Q-and-A session with a different youth each month. I got a lot of good feedback from the youth featured in this column. Many said they felt like celebrities after getting featured.

I wrote this column from 2007-2011 for the Paint Horse Journal. Each month I featured a different APHA member with an interesting story and special relationship with their Paint Horse. This particular column shares Dr. Chris Hauge's story.
